01 / CHALLENGES

Challenges Customers Face

The difficulty in custom projects is not any single technology but the interfaces between architecture, communication, hardware and physical realization.

PAIN 01

Pre-development projects lack a platform to reference

Concept cockpits often appear before the series production platform, with no mature architecture or communication design to inherit, so the architecture concept, communication matrix and hardware selection must all be settled early in the project.

PAIN 02

Multi-domain communication integration is difficult

CAN, LIN and automotive Ethernet coexist inside the cockpit, and each controller comes from a different supplier; protocol conversion, routing and signal mapping must be connected one by one during integration.

PAIN 03

Scarce resources for prototype and show-car modification

Modification involves high-precision machining, interior wrapping, clay models and confidentiality management; external resources have long lead times and struggle to meet the project's confidentiality requirements.

02 / ARCHITECTURE

Architecture Design and Communication Integration

From whole-vehicle E/E architecture to the communication design inside the cockpit, ZD provides end-to-end design and implementation.

Define the Architecture First, Then Integrate

ZD has provided cockpit domain system integration solutions for the full model lines of several international automotive brands, including the overall E/E architecture design for next-generation pre-development concept cockpits and the corresponding communication matrix definition.

On communication integration, ZD uses its in-house ZD Box series bus simulation products to perform communication protocol conversion and routing, integrating the cockpit's communication networks such as CAN, LIN and automotive Ethernet, and providing an implementable technical solution for the vehicle's connectivity and communication design.

Once architecture and communication definitions are complete, hardware integration, hardware-software joint debugging and system-level testing proceed along the V model, with corresponding deliverables and review gates at every stage.

03 / CAPABILITY

Core Capabilities

Going from an architecture document to a cockpit that can be powered up and run requires capability at both the design and engineering ends.

01

E/E Architecture Design

Overall EEA architecture design for pre-development concept cockpits, including domain partitioning, network topology and functional allocation of controllers.

02

Communication Matrix Definition

Defines the messages, signals and cycles between nodes and outputs communication matrix documentation that suppliers can implement.

03

Communication Protocol Conversion and Routing

Based on the ZD Box series, performs protocol conversion and routing between CAN, LIN and automotive Ethernet to connect signal chains across network segments.

04

Hardware and Software Integration

Completes hardware integration, software deployment and joint debugging of cockpit controllers, covering subsystem design, ECU verification and system verification stages.

05

System Integration Testing

After integration, carries out functional testing, interaction testing and network communication testing to verify cockpit functions in the whole-vehicle environment.

06

Custom Vehicle Modification

Provides modification services for prototype and show cars, including interior wrapping, structural component machining and custom tooling fabrication.

09 / FAQ

FAQ

At what point is it best to get involved in a project?
Involvement can start at the concept stage. The earlier the architecture design and communication matrix definition are settled, the less hardware and software selection and integration rework there will be later. ZD can also take on the integration and verification stages when the solution has already been finalized.
We have our own hardware suppliers - can you just do the integration and testing?
Yes. ZD can handle communication matrix definition, protocol conversion and routing configuration, hardware and software integration and system integration testing; hardware can be supplied by the customer's designated supplier, with in-house interface devices used where necessary to complete the communication chain.
How are the schedule and confidentiality of show-car modification ensured?
Modification advances through six stages: kick-off meeting, engineering design, manufacturing and assembly, inspection and testing, surface finishing and exhibit handover, with inspection gates at each stage. On confidentiality, the project is carried out in model rooms with independent access control, and intellectual property handling is completed according to customer requirements before handover.
Do you support overseas projects?
Yes. ZD has an R&D and delivery site in Germany and the organizational capability for China-Germany collaborative delivery, and can take on overseas pre-development and modification projects.
