ZD DataGrabber CAN/LIN

Logger for large CAN/LIN sub-bus counts · Two flexible modes

A data logger designed for domain-controller architectures with large numbers of CAN and LIN sub-buses. It can act as a standalone data logger, recording CAN/LIN bus data to built-in M.2 NVMe storage, or as an expansion interface for the ZD Datalogger 3 or another third-party host, delivering precisely timestamped bus data over the industry-standard ASAM CMP protocol. It supports gPTP time synchronization to keep data from different devices on heterogeneous buses time-aligned.

Key Features

Key Features

01A compact, convenient standalone data logger

Compact and easy to deploy, it goes straight into the vehicle as a standalone data logger recording multiple CAN/CAN FD and LIN buses.

02Expansion module for a main data logger

It can serve as an expansion module, adding CAN/CAN FD and LIN channels to the main device to cover large sub-bus counts with ease.

03Switch operating mode freely

It works either as a standalone Datalogger or in expansion mode for a main data logger, switching freely to suit the test task.

04gPTP time synchronization service

As a gPTP slave it synchronises to the main device, keeping data from multiple heterogeneous devices time-aligned.

05ASAM CMP data format

Delivers precisely timestamped bus data to the ASAM CMP standard, enabling cross-platform compatibility with other products.

06Built-in M.2 NVMe high-speed storage

In standalone mode, bus data is written to built-in M.2 NVMe storage, handling long-duration, multi-channel logging with ease.

Applications

Applications

01STANDALONE LOGGING

Standalone data logger

Standalone data logger · High-precision multi-bus logging

During road tests, durability runs or dedicated logging tasks, the large number of CAN/CAN FD and LIN sub-buses in a test vehicle needs complete, high-precision recording. The DataGrabber is compact and easy to power, and can be deployed in the vehicle as a standalone data logger.

  • Standalone operation: High-precision recording of multiple CAN/CAN FD and LIN buses without a host computer
  • Built-in storage: Data is recorded locally to built-in M.2 NVMe
  • Flexible deployment: The compact body fits the limited space in a vehicle and can be installed or removed quickly
The problem it solves: Domain-controller architectures multiply the number of sub-buses and traditional loggers run out of channels, while ad-hoc logging tasks call for a lightweight, zero-configuration solution.

02EXPANSION LOGGING

Expansion module for a main logger

Expansion via ASAM CMP · Shared time source

When a vehicle's sub-bus count exceeds the channel capacity of the main data logger, the DataGrabber serves as an expansion interface for the ZD Datalogger 3 or another third-party host, adding CAN/CAN FD and LIN logging.

  • Channel expansion: Adds CAN/CAN FD and LIN channels to the main data logger
  • Shared time source: The CMP protocol puts master and slave on the same time source, keeping recorded data time-aligned
  • Cross-platform compatibility: Based on the ASAM CMP data format, it connects to third-party hosts
The problem it solves: Heterogeneous multi-device logging leaves timestamps inconsistent and data hard to align; and when the main logger runs out of channels, replacing the whole unit is costly.
